Wheelchair basketball is one of the oldest adaptive sports in history! Anyone who has a physical disability can join in and play. We provide recreational or competitive opportunities for an individual to participate in. We offer two age groups: juniors and adults. To participate in our STRAPS wheelchair basketball program, athletes must be able to propel a manual wheelchair independently.
Our junior wheelchair basketball team includes athletes with physical disabilities between the ages of 5-18 years old. We are a part of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) where our athletes compete across the state to qualify for a bid to Nationals each year. Our goal is to have enough players to compete with a PREP team, ages 5-13, and a VARSITY team, ages 13-18. Most importantly our focus is on building character, confidence, and independence for our young athletes.
STRAPS Adult Wheelchair Basketball Program is a partnership with the San Antonio ParaSports SPURS wheelchair basketball team. The SPURS wheelchair basketball team is a competitive group of athletes that tryout each year to compete around the country to qualify for Nationals. In the off-season adults from the community join the fun!
